5 reasons why Kaala teaser did not beat Mersal teaser view-count on YouTube

With 39M+ views, Mersal is the highest viewed Tamil teaser on Youtube. Kaala being Rajinikanth's latest film could not beat this record and is counting 28M+ views even after 3 months of its release. Here we point out the reasons why Kaala couldn't overtake Mersal.

1. Actor-Director combination

Rajini-Ranjith combo had set a benchmark for teaser count on YouTube with their first outing Kabali. However, the movie received mixed reviews which made the people have less trust on Kaala which reflected in its teaser count. On the other side, Vijay-Atlee gave 'Theri' before 'Mersal' which mostly received the high appreciation from everywhere.

2. Broadcasting YouTube channels

Sony Music India with 13M subscribers on today's date released Mersal teaser while, Wunderbar studios having less than a million subscribers released Kaala teaser. Bigger YouTube brand worked for Mersal. It has to be noted that Wunderbar had only 300K subscribers before releasing Kaala teaser.

3. Online piracy issue

'Kaala' fell prey to online predators. Hours before the scheduled release, some miscreants leaked the full teaser online which went viral on all social media platforms. Dhanush and team had to even take legal action against the culprits.

4. Release on multiple platforms and languages at the same time

Rajinikanth has pan fan following Telugu and Hindi, and since Shankar directorial Sivaji all his films are released in three languages simultaneously worldwide. Teaser of Kaala in all languages was released at the same time.  Also simultaneously, Wunderbar published the teaser directly on Facebook instead of sharing the YouTube link, and again in all three languages.  Vijay's Mersal teaser was released only on Sony Music India YouTube channel and its Telugu version was released on the 10th day of the release of the first teaser.

5. Hitting the right note

Mersal director Atlee understood the pulse of the audience well. The title card was designed to resemble a bull, citing the Jallikattu protests happened earlier during that year. Two first look posters of Mersal have released out of which one had Vijay sporting a villager and Jallikattu sportsman with two bulls in the backdrop.

Kaala first look had only Rajinikanth and no familiar backdrop setting for Tamil audience and thus failed to set the expectations high.

It is highly untrue that Rajinikanth's popularity is decreasing. The post-release scenario of Kaala has proved it. The film released on June 7 collected 20Cr+ from India (except Karnataka)  on day 1 alone and is progressing towards becoming a milestone film in Rajinkanth's film career.
