Scene Box Office Prediction: Can Suriya and Jithu Madhavan Deliver Another Blockbuster?

Suriya's upcoming Scene has quickly become one of the most anticipated Tamil releases of Diwali 2026. The film, directed by Jithu Madhavan, will see Suriya play DSP Inbaraj, an unconventional police officer. The title teaser released on September 9 has generated strong reactions, particularly for Suriya's character, the mass moments and Jithu Madhavan's distinctive presentation. Scene is scheduled to release on November 6, 2026.

But the bigger question is: how much can Scene actually collect at the box office?

Based on Suriya's current box-office momentum and Jithu Madhavan's previous films, the early prediction is encouraging.

Suriya's Recent Box-Office Momentum

Suriya enters Scene after two successful films.

Karuppu: A Career-Best Blockbuster

Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji and co-starring Trisha Krishnan, became a major commercial success for Suriya. The film opened strongly, earning around ₹20 crore worldwide on its first day.

Its theatrical run subsequently became much bigger than the initial opening suggested. Karuppu crossed ₹300 crore worldwide and was described as the highest-grossing film of Suriya's career. It also completed 100 days in theatres, underlining the strength of its word-of-mouth.

This is important for Scene. Suriya's market is currently coming off a genuine box-office high rather than depending solely on pre-release fan anticipation.

Vishwanath And Sons: Another Strong Performer

Suriya followed Karuppu with Vishwanath And Sons, which also performed strongly. The film opened to approximately ₹27.51 crore worldwide, including ₹15.15 crore India net on its first day.

The film maintained its momentum and crossed ₹200 crore worldwide by around its third week, with India net collections exceeding ₹117 crore.

Therefore, Suriya's last two films have established an interesting trend:

₹300+ crore blockbuster → ₹200+ crore success → Scene

That gives Scene a strong starting point.

Jithu Madhavan's Track Record

The other major reason for optimism is director Jithu Madhavan.

His first film, Romancham, was made on a relatively modest scale but became a major Malayalam box-office success. The horror-comedy eventually collected around ₹69–70 crore worldwide.

Then came Aavesham, starring Fahadh Faasil. That film dramatically increased Madhavan's commercial credibility, crossing the ₹125 crore worldwide mark during its theatrical run and ultimately becoming a major Malayalam success.

The progression is significant:

Romancham → Aavesham → Scene

Madhavan has moved from a relatively small-budget film to a star-driven commercial entertainer and is now working with one of Tamil cinema's biggest stars.

Why Scene Could Be Bigger Than Jithu Madhavan's Previous Films

The most obvious difference is Suriya.

Romancham and Aavesham were powered heavily by their characters, performances and word-of-mouth. Scene has those advantages plus the enormous opening potential of a Tamil superstar.

The teaser also suggests a combination of action, comedy, eccentricity and mass moments, which could work particularly well during the Diwali holiday period.

Suriya's DSP Inbaraj could potentially become the film's biggest selling point if the character connects with audiences.

My Box-Office Prediction for Scene

There are several possible scenarios.

ScenarioIndia NetWorldwide Gross
Underwhelming₹120–145 Cr₹190–225 Cr
Hit₹150–180 Cr₹240–280 Cr
Strong Hit₹180–210 Cr₹290–330 Cr
Blockbuster₹210 Cr+₹330 Cr+

My Current Prediction: ₹280–310 Crore Worldwide

At this stage, my base-case prediction is around ₹295 crore worldwide.

I would estimate roughly ₹175–190 crore India net if the film receives positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth.

That would make Scene another major commercial success for Suriya, although it would probably fall short of Karuppu unless the film receives exceptional audience response.

The Biggest Problem: Ramayana

The prediction needs one major adjustment: Scene is not arriving in isolation.

The film is scheduled for the Diwali period alongside the highly anticipated Ramayana, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash. Scene therefore faces a major battle for premium screens, particularly outside Tamil Nadu.

This could prevent Scene from reaching its absolute maximum potential.

Suriya should have a strong advantage in Tamil Nadu, while Ramayana has the potential to dominate the Hindi market and attract audiences across India because of its subject and cast.

That means the clash could actually create two very different box-office stories.

Tamil Nadu

Scene advantage

Suriya's fan base, Diwali release and the combination of action and comedy could give the film an excellent run in Tamil Nadu.

Kerala

This could be another important market because of Jithu Madhavan's Malayalam background and the presence of Nazriya and Naslen.

Andhra Pradesh/Telangana

The result will depend heavily on the Telugu version's reception and how much screen space remains available alongside Ramayana.

North India

This is where Scene faces its biggest challenge. Ramayana has considerably broader Hindi-market appeal, meaning Suriya's film may have to rely heavily on reviews and word-of-mouth to expand beyond its initial audience.

What Could Push Scene Beyond ₹350 Crore?

Three things.

First, a strong teaser-to-trailer conversion. The current teaser response is encouraging, with fans praising Suriya's look and the film's mass elements.

Second, a highly entertaining first half and memorable Suriya character. Jithu Madhavan's biggest strength has been creating distinctive characters and allowing performances to drive the film.

Third, positive word-of-mouth.

If Scene becomes the film audiences recommend to friends after watching Ramayana, its theatrical run could become much bigger than its opening weekend suggests.

What Could Pull It Below ₹250 Crore?

The biggest danger is an uneven response combined with the Ramayana clash.

If Scene opens well because of Suriya's fan base but receives mixed reviews, the film could experience a substantial drop after the first weekend. The competition for screens would make recovery even harder.

In that scenario, a ₹220–250 crore worldwide finish becomes possible.

Final Prediction

Considering Suriya's current momentum, Jithu Madhavan's commercial track record and the teaser response, I would currently predict Scene to collect approximately ₹280–310 crore worldwide, with ₹295 crore as my single-number estimate.

If the film receives excellent word-of-mouth, ₹330–350 crore+ is possible.

If the Ramayana clash significantly restricts screens and the reviews are mixed, the film could settle around ₹220–250 crore.

The most interesting factor is that Scene doesn't need to beat Ramayana globally to be considered a success. A strong Tamil Nadu run, solid Kerala performance and respectable overseas numbers could make it a major Suriya hit even if Ramayana dominates the national box office.

Prediction: ₹295 crore worldwide | ₹180 crore India net | Strong Hit

And if Jithu Madhavan manages to combine the craziness of Aavesham with Suriya's star power, the ₹300-crore mark could become much more than just a prediction.
